Jun 25, 2019 Browse & Create Homebrew Game Rules Races. There isn't a price list in 5e as the idea for Magic Items is that they cant always be bought, magic shops don't exist or don't have wide selections. The DMG has rules for selling magic items, but they are extremely broad and should be used with quite a bit of discretion if you intent to allow. As far as point three, this is a serious concern for adventurers. In 5e, characters can only have three magic items attuned at a time (DMG pg 138). Therefore, unlike 4e, the number of magic item slots available to characters are very limited and magic items must be carefully considered. It was deliberately left undefined and vague because 5E takes the emphasis off of magic items, the better to leave them as objects of wonder. It's a reaction to 3E and 4E, which treated magic items like a consumer electronics trade show of mass produced replaceable parts - just insert tab A in slot B and give it 10,000gp worth of residuum or whatever, and presto, the precise mix-and-match item.

So I've been DMing in 5e for a few weeks now, normal growing pains but I don't miss 3.5 at all at this point except for one thing, weapons and armor.
I loved crafting magic armour and weapons and it feels like there is no place for that in 5e, I mean I realize you can modify existing stuff, but I'm hesitant to go as far as 3.5 allowed when it comes to changing a die amount or stacking bonuses. Has anyone else fooled around with building custom weapons and armor or even enchanted for their players and how far did you go with it?
Also as a second question, How do you deal with players buying equipment, given how proficiencies work , the starting equipment, and how the basic weapon tables in the PHB are very small, it seems like there is never a need to buy new weapons and armor.
D&d Magic Items 5e
Overall, this “sane list” is to me, not sane at all cause it seems to me like its taken 3.5 prices and just placed them on the 5E items. Something that shouldn’T be done because 5E has a gold threshhold per level as said in the DMG and reaching 100k gold for a character from level 1 to 20 is a feat all by itself. Most magic items are objects of extraordinary artisanship. Thanks to a combination of careful crafting and magical reinforcement, a magic item is at least as durable as a nonmagical item of its kind. Most magic items, other than potions and scrolls, have resistance to all damage.
